The treadmill has come a long way. Technological advances and inventive features have combined to make it the best selling fitness machine on the market today. However, because it sells so well, there are a lot of companies now manufacturing them. Some produce quality products, some don't. Some are over priced and some provide the consumer with tremendous value.
To find the best treadmill, buy it, and get the best value for your dollar, you need to look at the following three factors.
1) Warranty. It's amazing how warranty terms vary from brand to brand. Some offer only limited warranties for two years while others, (within the same price range), will offer 10 year unlimited warranties. Only a company that produces a quality fitness machine will back it up with a solid warranty. Beware of the treadmill that comes with a bad warranty.
2) Motor size. Many people underestimate how important this is. A 2 horsepower motor has to work twice as hard as a 4 horsepower motor. Therefore, estimate the amount of use your new treadmill will get and buy one that contains a motor that can keep up with your usage level. Larger motors mean increased expense so also make sure to not buy one that has a motor bigger than you need.
3) Features. There are so many great features now being offered by companies like Schwinn, Vision Fitness, Nordictrack and Life Fitness. These features can motivate you and/or keep you comfortable or entertained during your workout. Don't underestimate the value of this. These features can be the difference in helping you choose to exercise on a day where you really don't feel like doing it. It can also be the difference between a 20 minute workout and a forty five minute one. Don't be afraid to pay for features. They provide tremendous value.
